Do not reach for the quotient rule. Split the fraction first and write everything as a power of x: f(x)=12x3x1/2 2xx1/2=12x5/2 2x1/2. Differentiating, f'(x)=54x3/2x1/2. At x= 4 this is 54× 8 12= 10  0.5 = 9.5.
