If S5=S8 then the terms in between contribute nothing: u6+u7+u8= 0. Those terms are a+ 5d, a+ 6d and a+ 7d, so 3a+ 18d= 0 and a=6d. Using the sum formula directly gives the same thing: 52(2a+ 4d)=82(2a+ 7d) reduces to 6a+ 36d= 0.
